Zanzibar, which is only 22 miles from the Tanzanian mainland, is a beautiful Indian Ocean island with a fascinating history. The narrow streets and Arabic architecture of historical Stone Town are exceptionally mystical and beautiful on a moonlit night. Main attractions include the Zanzibar Museum, Arab Fort, Sultan's Palace, clove market, bazaar, Spice Tour. The more pristine coral reefs off Zanzibar offer a superb diving or snorkeling experience. The Jozani Forest, mostly composed of palm, pandanus and mahogany trees, is home to the unique Zanzibar red colobus, one of Africa’s rarest and most endangered primates, and the equally rare Fischer’s turaco.
There are numerous hotels in Stone Town as well as resorts lining the island's picturesque coastline. Besides sunbathing on the beach or poolside, these resorts also offer an array of water activities. A visit to one of these resorts is a very relaxing end for a safari!
