Itinerary Description

One of our classic programs where you game view in the vast plains of the Maasai Mara, Kenya and explore the forested areas in Rwanda for mountain gorillas. This itinerary features Classic and Premier Accommodation options.

Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcano National Park (Parc National des Volcans) is by far Rwanda’s major international attraction. After the release of the feature film, Gorillas in the Mist, about the late Dian Fossey’s pioneering work habituating the gorillas, interest in gorilla trekking reached new heights.

Travel Jan 11-Jun 14 and Oct 1-Dec 19, 2026 and add a complimentary 4th night at Mara Toto Tree Camp or Mara Nyika (Based on “Stay 4-pay 3”).

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01

Arrive Nairobi

On arrival in Nairobi, Kenya, you will be met and privately transferred to your hotel. Enjoy your evening at leisure. Overnight House of Waine.

Day 02-04

Maasai Mara

You will be met and transferred to Wilson Airport. Depart on your scheduled charter flight to your camp within the Maasai Mara. Activities include shared game drives, walking safaris in the Mara Conservation area, and visits to Maasai communities supported by the camp. Riverside bush breakfasts, sundowners and dinners can be arranged. Enjoy two full days of activities. An optional balloon safari may be taken. (As the sun rises over the plains of Africa you will have a bird’s eye view of the world below and the chance to see game from a completely different perspective. After landing, there is a champagne breakfast in the bush.) 3 nights Kicheche Valley or Kichwa Tembo or Wilderness Mara or Mara Toto Tree Camp or Mara Nyika.

Day 05

Kigali

Fly to Kigali, Rwanda. Upon arrival in Kigali you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight The Retreat.

Day 06-08

Musanze - Volcanoes National Park

This morning you will be picked up and transferred to your lodge in Ruhengeri and Volcanoes National Park. Gorilla trekking is not the only activity on offer. You will have an early wake up each morning as you will be collected at around 5:30am and transferred to the park gate at Kinigi for your first gorilla visit (6:45 am). Here you will meet your tracker and the day will be spent tracking the mountain gorillas. 3 nights Sambora Kinigi or Amakoro Songa Lodge or Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge or Singita Kwitonda.

Day 09

Kigali

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your lodge. Return to Kigali this afternoon where you will have a Kigali City Tour including a visit to the Genocide Museum and local market. Enjoy an early dinner at a local restaurant. You will be transferred to Kigali Airport.
