September 22 is World Rhino Day. Celebrating rhinos this week can’t be done without thanking those who protect them.
The outrage against the senseless killing of animals for ridiculous cures for humans, as unfounded as that is, is countered with the sheer admiration I have for anti-poaching units, activists across the globe, men and women we have supported via Project Ranger and those who step forward in any way to help.
Earlier this month, African Parks bought the Hume rhinos, all 2,000 of them, to distribute into the world over 10 years, a project we had circled for years. Congratulations, you are also rhino heroes.
This week, we celebrate rhinos for who they are and give them our collective promise not to let them disappear. Not on our watch.
