Plantation Lodge

Vintage A lodge or tented camp with very good food and service, and many have swimming pools. The rooms/tents are of good size but perhaps not as large as "Classic" properties. Facilities could be "Classic," but located in a sub-standard game viewing area.

Plantation Lodge is surrounded by farmland and is owner run, producing coffee and flower seeds as well as traditional corn crops. The lodge lies in an oasis of green between wheat and flower fields, and coffee plantations. There are good walking trails on the farm and along the forest edge. The lodge comprises a number of houses, all with spacious rooms. The 16 rooms in the gardens have en suite bathrooms and comfortable beds with mosquito nets. All are decorated in an understated style. There is a good-sized swimming pool that overlooks the surrounding gardens. The food is superb, using vegetable and dairy produce fresh from the farm.

Located in the town of Karatu, day trips can be arranged to both Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.
