Sam Mushandu
Sam Mushandu was born in south-east Zimbabwe. Growing up in the village gave him the opportunity to appreciate nature. School holidays were particularly fun as he would spend them in the bush herding cattle. Sam’s uncle worked for the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and would invite him to spend time in the Zambezi National Park. This ignited his passion for wildlife.
After completing high school Sam attended the Bulawayo Commercial College, graduating with a Diploma in Tourism. He worked for a Victoria Falls based company from 1999 to 2003, gaining experience of the bush through game drives and camp-outs in Hwange and Zambezi National Parks.
In 2003 he joined Wilderness Safaris Zimbabwe and acquired valuable guiding experience. The years that followed were particularly rewarding as he got the chance to work in the Wilderness Safaris Camps in Hwange National Park. He rubbed shoulders with some of Zimbabwe‘s top Safari Guides who helped shape his career. The years that followed saw Sam leading many safaris to places like Chobe National Park, Moremi, Kafue, Mudumu, Kruger and the Okavango Delta. After all those years of work experience, Sam qualified as a Professional Guide in 2013. This is the top Guiding qualification in Zimbabwe and Sam was awarded the Best Guide out of the Practical Exams class of 2013!
Sam enjoys history and fishing. Be prepared to hear some fishing stories!
