Sweetwaters Serena Camp

Vintage A lodge or tented camp with very good food and service, and many have swimming pools. The rooms/tents are of good size but perhaps not as large as "Classic" properties. Facilities could be "Classic," but located in a sub-standard game viewing area.

Sweetwaters Serena lies in the heart of Laikipia's Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Accommodations include 39 en suite tents with views of the waterhole. Located in typical savannah grasslands, punctuated by the 'whistling thorn' shrubs and acacia trees, Sweetwaters really is an oasis. The camp features a swimming pool, curio shop, Wi-Fi, colonial-style lounge and main dining room and the ‘Waterhole Bar’ which overlooks the camp’s waterhole. Activities include day and night game drives, escorted walks, and game viewing from the platform.

A highlight of a stay here is visiting the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Founded by the Kenya Wildlife Services and the Jane Goodall Institute, the aim of this 200-acre sanctuary is to have a colony where chimps can be introduced, rehabilitated and taught to fend for themselves in an area similar to their natural living conditions. Priority is given to orphaned and abused chimps. Guests are driven to the sanctuary, which is enclosed by a fence, where they will be able to view the chimps from a platform.  The sanctuary is open daily and visits are scheduled when the chimps are being fed. (Additional fees may apply)
