Rubondo Island Camp

Classic A deluxe lodge or tented camp, almost all with swimming pools, excellent food and service, large nicely appointed rooms or tents with comfortable beds and tasteful decor; most of the lodges have air-conditioning and the tents are usually fan-cooled.

Rubondo Island Camp is the only camp on the island and features 8 luxury cottages built under the shade of the forest canopy. Each thatched chalet features en suite facilities with a private verandah. The camp has a raised dining room with views of the lake, stocked bar and a swimming pool.

The main activity is chimp trekking. Also offered are game drives, nature walks, fishing for Nile perch and tilapia, and bird watching. Boat excursions are offered in the morning or late afternoon and give you the opportunity to view crocodiles, monitor lizards, otter and hippo not to mention a variety of bird. A unique activity is the swamp excursion which cruises along the western shore of the island in search of rare birds and the elusive sitatunga. Enjoy a picnic lunch before having a slow game drive back to camp.
