Ephata Lotashu

Ephata was born in 1969 in Arusha and after his completing both his primary and secondary education in Arusha he went to University in Iringa to read Physics and Chemistry for two years. After a year of National Service, Ephata joined Mweka Wildlife Management College in August 1993. During his time at Mweka, Ephata climbed both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, which he found to be a great personal achievement.

In 1995, after completing Mweka Wildlife Management College, he joined a company based in Dar-es-Salaam where he worked as an Assistant Professional Hunter and Camps Manager. This is where Ephata gained his first true bush, general hunting and operation skills.

Missing home, Ephata returned to Arusha and continued to increase his knowledge and eventually joined the guiding team in 1999. He was the Africa Adventure Company Guide of the Year, 2009! In 2010 he visited the USA as a guest speaker on the AAC "Call of Africa" roadshows.

Ephata is married to Edelfrida and has a daughter Ines born on 15 March 2003 and a son Ince born 14 August 2006.

Client Feedback

Finally, and most importantly the jewel of the trip was our outstanding guide, Ephata. We can not say enough about him. He captured my family's hearts from teaching my children Swahili, to helping cultivate my oldest new found interest in birds, to helping me fulfill one of goals on my bucket list by driving many extra miles out the way to reach and view the crossing. Or he would just sit around the fire or dinner laughing and sharing family stories with Dom and the rest of us.. Ephata helped us to really learn about life in Tanzania. Read More
The Izzo Family
What can we say? There are no words. We are so grateful to know Ephata. He is an exceptional guide -and person. He is thoughtful, caring, joyful, and unbelievably knowledgeable. Ephata has an advanced degree in wildlife conservation, so is clearly so expert, but he is also a great teacher. I never thought I would learn so much on this trip, but he offered up information always at the perfect moment. He is clearly the top of his profession, and this trip would not have been the same without him. Yvette and Collette's mother was very anxious going into this trip, but Ephata knew just the right things to say and do, and by the end, she trusted him like no other. By the end of our journey, we all felt emotional saying good-bye, because we felt so fortunate for all he had given to us. We felt we had a new friend. We so hope our paths will cross again sometime.Read More
