Jessica Fraser in Victoria Falls, Botswana & South Africa

October 30, 2019 Office Trip Reports
Jessica Fraser at Victoria Falls

Jessica, her husband and her in-laws have a super, Southern African safari planned. Destination highlights include Victoria Falls, Savute and the Okavango Delta, the Cape Winelands, and the Savanna Private Game Reserve (bordering Kruger National Park). Moreover, they’re treating themselves to some truly luxurious accommodations, including Mombo Main Camp in the Okavango Delta and Franschhoek Country House in the Cape Winelands!

Day 1 – Victoria Falls

From Left to Right: Cynthia, Jessica, Jessica’s sister-in-law Ann, and Precious

On Sunday afternoon, the group arrived at Victoria Falls. They only had time for one activity, but the choice was easy: they took a tour of the falls with Cynthia and Precious, AAC’s exclusive guides! Their stories and charm are always a hit for our clients, and it was no different for Jessica and her group.

The Victoria Falls Hotel

The group then had a fabulous dinner in the Livingstone Room. The iconic Victoria Falls Hotel offers excellent services. The colonial grandeur of this historical hotel is one-of-a-kind; even if our guests stay elsewhere, we always recommend a visit!

Day 2 & 3 – Savuti Camp

Jessica and her husband at Savute

The following morning, Jessica and crew departed on a scheduled charter flight via Kasane, Botswana for their next destination: Linyanti. The Savute Marshes, Savute Channel, and the Linyanti River are the defining feature of this wildlife reserve. The fresh water attracts a lot of big game, especially large herds of elephant, which is great for observing exciting animal interactions! There’s also the option of taking a boat ride on the Linyanti River – great for birdwatching!

Jessica and crew were staying at Savuti Camp. She took an immediate liking to the beautiful canvas and thatch design of the rooms and common area. Additionally, the camp has great amenities, including a nicely chilled pool. The views of the wildlife and Savute Channel from their tents were unforgettable. They ended their stay with both a surprise Bush lunch and a boma dinner.

Beautiful sundowners in the bush

Day 4 & 5 – Chitabe Camp

Chitabe Camp – Okavango Delta

Jessica’s next destination was Chitabe Camp. Located in the southeastern portion of the Okavango Delta, this classic camp has been a favorite of AAC clients for years. This time of year can be hot in Botswana, but Jessica was absolutely fine – a portable AC and the breeze let through by the gauze and canvas tents kept her very comfortable during her stay. A special surprise here was a private dinner under the stars by the pool!

But as nice of an accommodation as Chitabe is, the main draw has been the stunning concentration and diversity of wildlife. The Big 5, plains game, nocturnal animals (like porcupines and pangolins) and other predators (like cheetahs and wild dogs) make this area a year-round, all-day game viewing experience!

Day 6 & 7 – Mombo Main Camp

Clearly Jessica is enjoying herself on safari!

After a great two days at Chitabe, Jessica and her group were on to their next destination: the famous Mombo Camp in Chief’s Island.

Few camps in Africa are better associated with both top of the line game-viewing and amenities as Mombo Camp is. Each of the elevated, spacious tented suites contain private decks with a plunge pool and swing bed. The suites are connected to the main area by a series of elevated walkways. The main area combines both the “classic” safari elements with a stunning modern elegance to create a superb dining and lounge experience.

Black rhino

Jessica’s game-viewing highlights included a pride of 8 lions chowing down after successfully hunting 3 buffaloes, a close sighting of a black rhino, bat-eared foxes, giraffes, and elephants. Jessica couldn’t help but laugh when she found baboons drinking out of their private plunge pool!

Qorokwe Site Inspection

Qorokwe Camp

Because of its proximity to Chitabe Camp, Jessica decided to do a site inspection at Qorokwe Camp. Qorokwe offers a different kind of luxury. Chitabe has a more of a “classic” feel and design, Qorokwe melds African design and decor with a more modernist touch.
