Namiri Plains

Classic A deluxe lodge or tented camp, almost all with swimming pools, excellent food and service, large nicely appointed rooms or tents with comfortable beds and tasteful decor; most of the lodges have air-conditioning and the tents are usually fan-cooled.

Namiri Plains is located in the pristine eastern Serengeti known as Soit le Motonyi. Namiri means “big cat” in Swahili which is ideal as this area had been closed off the past 20 years as a cheetah sanctuary and now has the highest concentration of cheetah in East Africa. The area is also rich in other game as there is a permanent water source. Twice a year the migration of the wildebeest pass through this area on its migratory route. The chances of seeing other safari vehicles are rare.

The intimate camp features ten tents, including one family tent, each with sliding mesh doors leading to a large private verandah with an alfresco bathtub cleverly screened for privacy but with views out on to the open plains. The main lounge area centers around the Fossil Bar and a curated exhibit about big cats for which this area is famous for. Expansive decking extends from the lounge and dining area with comfortable seating areas to observe the Ngare Nanyuki River and visiting wildlife.  The swimming pool welcomes guests to cool off after a morning game drive or visit the Spa which offers a variety of treatments and massages. Enjoy a delicious three-course dinner followed by cocktails served around the campfire.

Activities include open-vehicle game drives, breakfast picnics on Soit Le Motonyi rock and sundowners on top of the kopjes. There is also the opportunity to visit a local community or participate in the Serengeti Cheetah Project (donation fee applies).
