Mara Toto Camp
Mara Toto Camp sits in a small bend in the Ntiakitiak River, where the thick forest meets savannah, and just a few miles from its sister camp, Mara Plains. This camp is a magical revisiting of the past, designed for those searching for East Africa’s romantic safari era. Here, you will experience the best of both worlds: the intense action of the Maasai Mara ecosystem, as well as the more private 70,000-acre Mara North Conservancy. There are just four light and airy, spacious canvas tents at this intimate camp. Each tent has en-suite bathrooms where you enjoy piping hot water from huge brass ’safari showers’ to a chorus of hippos lazing nearby. In addition, the camp is locally famous for its leopard residents wandering the riverbanks. And it is positioned to take the best advantage the famous annual Great Migration, maximizing your opportunity to witness a river crossing.
Early morning and late afternoon game drives in an open, 4×4 vehicle are offered at Mara Toto. Balloon flights across the Maasai Mara can be arranged but are at an additional cost. Visits to Maasai bomas and both local school and community projects are possible and offer incredible insight into the region’s colorful people.
