Visit the medieval castles of Gondor and the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela and Tigray. You will travel using scheduled commercial flights. Enjoy the services of an English speaking escort guide throughout your adventure.
Depart on your overnight international flight to Ethiopia. On arrival in Addis Ababa you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel. On Day 3 meet your guide and spend time touring the amazing sights of this vibrant city and its surrounds. Two nights Sheraton Hotel Addis.
This morning you fly to Mekelle. Drive to Tigray. Spend the remainder of the day touring Wukro Cherqos. Two nights Gheralta Lodge or Korkor Lodge.
This morning visit Abune Yemata, the most spectacularly located rock hewn church anywhere in Ethiopia (accessing the church requires climbing 500m in altitude).
Depart this morning and drive to Axum and attend the festival of Mariam Zion. Afternoon exploring Axum. Later in the day drive to Adwa for the evening. Overnight Sabean Hotel.
Depart early this morning to the Axum Airport for your scheduled flight to Lalibea. Enjoy an afternoon city tour. On your second day, after breakfast, you set off on mule or on foot to the church of Ashetun Mariam, about a 4 hours’ round trip. An alternative to the Ashetun Mariam trip, or if visitors are not afraid of a full day it can be done in the afternoon in addition to Ashetun Mariam, is the cave church of Yemrehane Christos. Two nights Maribela Lodge.
Transfer to the airport for your scheduled flight to Gondar. On arrival your guide will drive you to the Simien Mountains National Park. In the Simiens you can see the endemic Gelada or bleeding heart baboon, the Walia Ibex, the Simien wolf (the rarest canid in the world) and rock hyrax, and endemic birds such as the thick billed raven, black headed siskin, white collared pigeon, wattled ibis, white billed starling, spot breasted plover and white backed black tit. The following day (Day 10) drive to Chenek for a day exploring. Day 11 hike to Immet Gogo. Three nights Limalimo Lodge.
Depart by road to Gondar. Spend the day touring the city including several churches dating back to the 17th century Overnight Mayleko Lodge.
This morning you fly back to Addis where you are met and transferred to your hotel where a dayroom has been reserved. Dayroom: Sheraton. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Depart this evening on your departing flight.
