Appropriately called “The Country of a Thousand Hills,” Rwanda is predominantly grassy uplands and hills, with altitudes above sea level varying from a low of 3,960 feet (1,207 m) to Mt. Karisimbi, the highest of a range of extinct volcanoes in the northwest, which reach 14,786 feet (4,507 m). Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park(Parc National des Volcans) is Rwanda’s major international attraction. After the release of the feature film, Gorillas in the Mist, about the late Dian Fossey’s pioneering work habituating the gorillas, interest in gorilla trekking reached new heights.

Day 01
On arrival in Kigali you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Laico Umubano Kigali or Kigali Serena Hotel.
Day 02
Depart by road to Nyungwe Forest Reserve, stopping en route for lunch in Butare Town. An optional hike through the forest for general primates can also be done this afternoon. Overnight Nyungwe Villas or Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
Day 03
Enjoy a primate trek where you will visit some of the habituated troops of colobus monkeys. You may also see L’Hoests’s monkeys, silver monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, blue monkeys, golden monkeys and red-tailed monkeys. Overnight Nyungwe Villas or Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
Day 04
Enjoy a chimp trek where you will depart early morning and visit Cyamudongwe Forest. Your guide will lead you to a habituated chimp group. Overnight Nyungwe Villas or Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
Day 05
This morning you will depart for Lake Kivu via Gisenyi (there is an optional speed boat transfer – additional charges apply). Overnight Lake Kivu Serena Hotel
Day 06
This morning you will depart with your driver for Volcanoes National Park. The drive will take you across the beautiful Rwandan countryside. You will enjoy a golden monkey trek. Your day begins with an early morning wake-up (approx 6:00am) and then a transfer (approx 6:30am) to the park gate to commence the trek (6:30am). Here you will meet your tracker and the day will be spent tracking the Golden Monkeys. Your viewing of the Golden Monkeys will be limited to a maximum of only one hour. Onward transfer to the lodge for lunch. Overnight Gorilla Mountain View Lodge or Volcanoes Virunga Lodge or Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.
Day 07
Early morning wake-up (approx 5:30am) and you will be transferred (approx 6:15am) to the park gate at Kinigi for your first gorilla visit (6:30am). Here you will meet your tracker and the day will be spent tracking the mountain gorillas. Your viewing of the gorillas will be limited to a maximum of only one hour. One must be prepared for a strenuous hike of four to six hours. A small water bottle is a good idea, especially if the trek turns out to be strenuous. There will be some bottles of mineral water in your vehicle for you to take with you. Overnight Gorilla Mountain View Lodge or Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.
Day 08
Today you will depart on your second gorilla trek. Time permitting you may want to ask your driver about the tours available around Musanze. Overnight Laico Umubano Kigali or Kigali Serena Hotel.
Day 09
Time permitting an optional Kigali City Tour including a visit to the Genocide Museum, the local market and the www.womenforwomen.org can be arranged. Departure transfer for your onward scheduled flight.
