Zimbabwe has excellent and well-maintained parks and reserves. Many safari camps offer high-quality personalized guiding, and the country boasts the greatest variety of methods to view wildlife in Africa. You can view game by open vehicle during the day and at night, walk with a licensed guide in all game parks and take boating excursions; other activities include canoeing, kayaking and white- water rafting on the Zambezi River. Accommodations vary from small lodges to fixed tented camps, mobile tented safaris and remote wilderness houseboats.
Matusadona National Park situated on the southern shore of Lake Kariba, this park has an abundance of elephant, lion, kudu, impala and buffalo, especially concentrated along the shoreline in the dry season (May-Oct). A special attraction is tracking black rhino on foot.
Mana Pools National Park during the season (May-Oct), animals are found along the Zambezi River. This is prime time to view elephant, hippo, waterbuck, wild dog, lion and buffalo by canoe, vehicle and on walks.
Hwange National Park Zimbabwe's largest national park is famous for its large herds of elephant and sable antelope. Commonly seen species include buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and lion. Hwange is also home to cheetah, rhino, wild dog and bat-eared fox.
Victoria Falls In the face of a phenomenon twice the height of Niagara Falls and one and half times as wide, one is in awe. In his journal, David Livingstone wrote "...Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in flight".
Chizarira National Park Chizarira is a true wilderness area, remote and untamed. Walking safaris are the best way to see the park.
Matobo (Matopos) Hills National Park In this ancient place, one can visit a few of the thousands of bushmen paintings that have been found throughout the picturesque caves in among the granite kopjes. Matobo is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including white rhino, giraffe, eland, zebra, sable antelope and buffalo. Activities are by vehicle, on foot or on horseback.
Gonarezhou is a remote national park characterized by impressive cliffs and riverine forests. Most of the large wildlife species may be found here. Adjacent to the park are private game reserves that offer day and night game drives and walks. Within driving distance is the majestic historical structure, Great Zimbabwe.
Eastern Highlands A beautifully forested and mountainous region that is home to the highest mountain in Zimbabwe, Mt. Inyangani (8,500 ft). Vumba Mountain region is located south of Mutare and has many botanical reserves and forests. Chimanimanii Mountain region offers extensive views into Mozambique.
