Mark Friend

Being the 5th Generation born in Southern Africa, Mark was born in 1978 in the heart of Zimbabwe and spent his youth growing up in the rural farming community areas where he very quickly developed his passion for the African bush, its wildlife and people.

At the age of 18, Mark was accepted as an apprentice trainee guide within, the then, Zimbabwe Sun Guides programme. He was privileged, through this programme to gain experience in the majority of major national parks within Zimbabwe where he obtained valuable knowledge with the respective environments and their inhabitants.

In 2002, He obtained his Professional Guides Licence winning the award for Best Guide on Proficiency. Mark has continued to spend his guiding career, traveling around Zimbabwe, working within the diverse ecosystems that it’s National Parks and Wildlife areas have to offer.

Mark got married to his wife, Shirley in 2003 and now has two children.

During his time working as a Professional Guide, Mark was afforded an opportunity to follow in his families footsteps, where he took a break in 2005 and joined the Hampshire Constabulary as a Police Constable, policing the City of Portsmouth in the UK.

After 7 years in the UK, serving the public through difficult times in their lives, the African bush where Marks heart still lives, began to yearn for him to return. In 2011, Mark could resist no more and returned back with his family to his home land of Zimbabwe and is back living out his one and only true passion, working with the Zimbabwean wildlife and people.
