The Africa Adventure Company

Ivan Carter

Ivan Carter, born in Zimbabwe, began his wildlife career at a wildlife orphanage where he gained hands-on experience in the rearing of sick and injured orphaned wild animals. He then joined a safari lodge where he began his guiding career learning all aspects of camp management, guiding and general safari activities. He ended up with both a full Professional Guiding and Canoeing license, one of the highest levels throughout Africa.

For several years he owned and ran a camp in Mana Pools and in between led specialist-guiding safaris around Africa including Botswana, Namibia, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. In February of 2001, and again in January of 2003, he was invited by Stanford University to present several lectures on "observations of wildlife" and "monitoring elephant populations" In August of 2001, the magazine Travel and Leisure included him in their article "follow the leaders" featuring the best guides in Africa. In October 2002 he was featured in Conde Nast.

As an accomplished professional guide and photographer, Ivan leads small, group safaris throughout Africa and we are thrilled to have teamed up with him on our specialist guiding safaris. His wonderful sense of humor, his incredible knowledge, his raconteur around the campfire, and his ability to walk you up close to wildlife; make for "a safari of a lifetime" experience!

Ivan is doing a very limited number of days guiding.
