Hillary joined us in 1999 and has gained a huge and invaluable knowledge of the Northern Circuit of Tanzania. His predominant interests are bird watching and conservation. Hillary is our "Guide of the Year" for 2010.
He was born in Moshi, in 1970, on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro. He was educated in Moshi, Mbeya and Arusha and after completion of high school joined Mweka Wildlife College, where he spent 2 years. During his time at Mweka, Hillary got the chance to climb Mt Kilimanjaro twice, where he gained his initial experience of hiking at high altitude and long distances.
When Hillary moved to Arusha, he joined a privately owned safari company, which was predominantly working in the South of Tanzania, including Selous Game Reserve and Katavi National Park. Here Hillary experienced the workings of mobile camping safaris and led small groups during their safaris.
Hillary lives in Arusha with his wife Benedicta and daughter Shannon who was born 30 April 2002.
