The Africa Adventure Company

Hiking, Mountain Climbing and Walking Safaris

Many people want to be active on vacation and this is where an African safari is fabulous!  The wide open spaces are plentiful and more importantly, they are remote and uncrowded. The diversity of scenery is stunning so let us work with you to select a program below to be part of your trip planning.

A walking safari/game viewing on foot is the ultimate way to experience the African bush. The thrill of walking up to a bull elephant, black rhino or gorillas is exciting beyond words. An expert guide can help you identify birds, flowers, trees and wildlife. You will even learn how to track animals by their spoor (footprints).

Some of the best walking safaris are available in Hwange and Mana Pools in Zimbabwe, South Luangwa in Zambia, Selinda in Botswana, South Africa private game reserves, Ongava in Namibia and Selous in Tanzania.

Mount Kilimanjaro is considered a worldclass mountain climb, rising from the surrounding plains of 3,300 ft. (1000m) to 19,340 ft. (5,895m). There are four routes typically used by climbers, Rongai, Machame, Shira, and Marangu.

The more accessible Gorilla trekking is available in Rwanda (Volcano) and Uganda (Bwindi). Chimpanzee trekking is good in Kibale, Uganda and also Gombe and Mahale in Tanzania.  Rwanda is habituating a group.

Some lovely hiking areas are the foothills of Kilimanjaro in Kenya/Tanzania, Drakensberg mountains in South Africa, Sossusvlei and Skeleton Coast in Namibia, Simien Mountains of Ethiopia, the Mt. Kenya/Laikipia region of Kenya, Ngorongoro Highlands in Tanzania, and Tuli in Southern Botswana.
