The Africa Adventure Company is proud of the reputation we have earned on the African continent over the past 25 years. Chosen as one of the World’s Top Travel Specialists in Conde Nast Traveler 8 years in a row, we are listed as their chosen tour operator for family safaris!
Our family programs (scroll down below) are carefully planned for family travels to give you a total overall experience of Africa, including wildlife, culture and meeting the people and children of Africa. On these trips we ensure that there are kid-friendly guides and that the itineraries are well-paced for children. The owners Mark and Alison Nolting have taken their two boys (now 17 and 14) on over 14 safaris. And several other safari consultants have taken their own children to both East and Southern Africa!
One of the first planning dilemmas is whether to consider a safari to Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa or a Southern Africa trip to either Botswana, South Africa and perhaps combining Cape Town and Victoria Falls. Besides the typical game drives on safaris, other activities including walking and tracking, riding in canoes, riding on the back of elephant, camel or horses, quad-biking in the desert, visiting villages and rural schools (even volunteering for day)..... and more can be considered.
Typically on our family safaris that we plan you will be assigned your own guide and vehicle which allows you to dictate the schedule each day to suit your style of travel and expectations. However you will meet up with other people at the various accommodations during meal times.
If you do not see what you are looking for, one of the huge advantages to working with The Africa Adventure Company is that, we can customize any itinerary to your specific needs. Many of our families plan their vacation by modifying a particular itinerary or creating their own safari program.
Traditionally East Africa has so much diversity:
~ The most incredible variety of scenery including Mt. Kilimanjaro, the open Serengeti plains and the wonders of Ngorongoro Crater.
~ The cultures of the Masai, Samburu and Hadzi bushmen
~ Game-viewing from both open and roof hatch vehicles,
~ Some scenic hiking along the Great Rift Valley, Mt. Kenya region and the Ngorongoro Crater rim, and walking safaris in private concessions near most parks including Amboseli, Tarangire, the Serengeti and Masai Mara, and in the southern parks like Selous and Katavi.
~ Flexibility to include school and clinic visits near Arusha and Karatu (between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro) and in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
~ Boating activities including viewing by boat on the Rufiji river in the Selous, and canoeing on Lake Momella in Arusha National Park
~ Primate Escapes including both gorillas and chimpanzees (minimum age is 15 years)
~ Leisure time at Indian Ocean beaches and island getaways like Lamu and Zanzibar
However, equally Southern Africa has so much to offer:
~Beginning with leisure time in scenic Cape Town and Victoria Falls
~ Close up Big Five viewing in the private game reserves near Kruger in South Africa,
~ The unique water/land ecosystems of the Okavango Delta and grasslands of Moremi in Botswana,
~ The abundance of riverine regions in Botswana (Linyanti and Chobe), Mana Pools in Zimbabwe, Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa in Zambia. In these areas you can view game by motorized boat, dug-out mokoros, and traditional canoes
~ Walking and tracking safaris in remote areas with top professional guides
~ The bushmen culture in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, and cultural visits to schools, village and schools in remote towns.
~ Dramatic scenery and remote wilderness of Namibia.
~ Beach and island getaways to Mozambique, Mauritius, and the Maputaland Coast of South Africa.
