Katara Lodge is located on the Kichwamba Escarpment that was formed as a result of volcanic activity. The area boasts of 72 explosion craters, and several
undulating hills and valleys that together provide very beautiful scenery. The lodge is a short (15km) drive from the main entrance of the Queen Elizabeth
National Park, set on the edge of the hills overlooking the open savannah.
Accommodations include seven thatched cottages overlooking the open savannah. Each spacious cottage was hand crafted using locally available materials
and carved into the hillside by the Katara village community. The cottages combine en suite facilities, wooden floors, grass thatched roofs and
canvas that can be folded away for uninterrupted views of the park stretching out below. You may choose to start the evening with a sundowner on
the private veranda perched on stilts. The more adventurous can spend the night under the African sky on a four poster star bed.
While based at Katara, there are a variety of activities available such as game drives through the Queen Elizabeth National Park, launch cruise on
the Kazinga channel, guided nature walks in the Maramagambo Forest, scenery viewing and interpretive village walk.
