Grumeti River Camp is set in the western corridor of the magnificent Serengeti National Park at the edge of a permanent oxbow pan formed by an overflow of the Grumeti River. Supporting lush riverine forest, the Grumeti River provides a sharp contrast to the surrounding plains and hosts some of the Serengeti's more unusual species, such as the black and white colobus monkey. Lake Victoria, the second largest freshwater lake in the world, lies 50 kms to the west and provides a fascinating outing.
The 10 flamboyant tents under thatch, each with the vibrancy of kente cloth and local sculptured furnishings, bring the excitement and romance of Africa to life. Each of the spacious twin-bedded tents has a private bathroom that also has a shower that is open to the sky under its wrought iron dome. In the dining area and the bar, local materials have been used to create a playful and quirky, yet very African style. The domed bar is perfect for sundowners overlooking the river. A secluded sheltered boma ensures star studded romantic dinners. The camp also has a swimming pool and leisure deck - both perched on the banks of the river where guests can view abundant pools of hippo at play. A curio shop and gallery is located near to the reception area. Activities include game drives, walking /hiking, and optional balloon safari or day excursions to Lake Victoria. The camp overlooks a waterhole.
